Job title: Lay worker
Accountable to: Designated Line Manager
Location: Christ Church, Prince Edwards Road, Lewes, BN7 1BL
Working hours: Part time, 20 hours a week (some hours from home if desired)
- SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Pastoral work
Leading and supporting pastoral work in the church; supporting pastoral teams in their work; developing contacts and relationships with new and occasional worshippers;
Outreach and local community
Continuing the church’s established work in the local community and exploring the scope for expanding, then developing, running, and evaluating the effectiveness of, outreach initiatives to increase the church’s mission and profile in the local community. This will be through work with

- children and young families,
- youth,
- schools,
- care homes,
- older people and
- refugees

This would include, but not be limited to, work with Christ Church Tots, Open the Book and Fitzjohns Community Food.
Mission and Faith development
Helping the church to continue exploring alternative Sunday worship services, arranging events beyond Sunday worship including prayer meetings, bible study, witness in the local community, and developing faith in the congregation and deepening ecumenical relationships.
- KEY RESULT AREAS
a) Make sure that the church activities share resources, are well-led, structured, clear about their purpose, effective, and regularly reviewed. This will draw on your own skills as well as leadership qualities.
b) Identify opportunities for and arrange appropriate community outreach events
c) Ensure all activities provided by or in association with the churches meet current safety and protection requirements at all times.
d) Ensure that records of children attending any activities, contact and other information is kept safely.
e) Encourage and promote the prayer life of the church.
