Church Walks are back
The walkers meet one a month (usually the third Sunday, but second Sunday in December) after morning worship for a local walk and fellowship.
Following our walk to Mount Caburn on New Year’s Day, our next walk of 2022 will be on
Sunday January 16 at 1.15 pm. ,starting at Falmer Pond ,
adjacent to St Laurence’s church , where there is plenty of on-street parking
By car from Lewes, take the A27 towards Brighton and leave at the B 2123 ( signed “Woodingdean , Falmer and Universities”) exit . At the top of the ramp, take a left (Woodingdean direction ) and then take the first left into the village. The church is on the far side of the pond.
Please have lunch before starting the walk .
The walk is a “figure of eight “. It will take us up the new cycle / foot path parallel with the B2123 ( nicely surfaced with no mud ) towards Woodingdean .We will then strike east to Newmarket Plantation , before turning back over Newmarket Hill ( muddy in places) to the B2123 again . We then descend by the cycle/foot path halfway down the hill, before heading west towards Bevendean and then down the hill back to Falmer. Its about four and a half miles in total.
If the weather is clear there are very good long distance views from the Downs, east towards Lewes, out to sea, and west to Worthing and beyond. Current weather forecast indicates light cloud and a gentle breeze , but may change.
