Church Walks

"seeking to proclaim the Gospel and serve our local community"

Christ Church Walks

Here at Christ Church, we have a monthly programme of walks.

Our friendly group does walks of 2-4 miles (3-6 kilometres) in the beautiful Sussex countryside, or sometimes down by the coast, or in a town.

Occasionally, we go further afield, usually in one of the summer months. In the last two years, we have done a pilgrimage walk from Bosham to to Chichester Cathedral,  the Cuckmere Pilgrim Path in East Sussex, and walks in the City of London – following a trail on the Great Fire of London 1666 – and a walk to Chanctonbury Ring and Cissbury Ring on the downs in West Sussex

The walks are usually held on the third Sunday of the month, meeting here at Christ Church at 1.00 p.m. and then car sharing to the starting point at around 1.30 p.m.

The walks are open to both church members and to others who just enjoy a country walk. Dogs are also welcome as long as they bring considerate owners.

  • The October walk is on Sunday 19. Meet at the church at 1.30 p.m for car sharing. The planned route starts from Telscombe village (near the church) and we will walk down, and then back up, Telscombe Tye, an area of common land with great views out to sea. It is about 3 miles / 5 km long.
  • The November walk is on Sunday 16. Meet at the church at 1.00 p.m. (the afternoons are getting shorter by then) for car sharing and then begin the walk at the Lower Lodges Car Park in Stanmer Park. Our walk will go north into the Downs, overlooking the University of Sussex campus, before returning via Stanmer village, for a tea stop. Again, this is a distance of around 3 miles /5 km.
  • The very full calendar in December means that we will not arrange a walk that month, but will resume with our traditional New Years’ Day walk to Mount Caburn and back on the morning of Thursday January 1

All our walks are subject to weather conditions, particularly in the winter months
