Contemporary Society and Contemporary Religion

The Christ Church Thinktank has been in existence for over 10 years. It draws on speakers from all the churches in the Lewes area.  Our speakers provide their services without charge, so our meetings are free and open to all. Whether you go to church or not, join us whenever the topic interests you.

In the current situation, all our meetings are currently being held using Zoom. The format is the same - 45 minutes talk and 45 minutes discussion and our average attendance is about 30. All meetings are from 7.30 pm to 9 pm.

Next meeting on Wednesday  17 March 2021 at 7:30 pm.

The speakers will be Lesley Healey and Prof. Mike Ramsey who will be speaking on:

 “Urban Biodiversity”

Lesley Healey graduated in Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia and subsequently qualified as a nurse. She moved to Lewes in 2004 as Assistant Director, Adult Social Services, and a consultant on housing and social care. Now retired, she is secretary of Wildflower Lewes (WfL) and Director of the not-for-profit local food-growing project, Common Cause. Mike Ramsey is Emeritus Professor at the University of Sussex and a regular Thinktank participant. He has published papers on environmental contamination and chemical pollution in agricultural and industrial contexts, and, as a keen ornithologist, is currently chair of Lewes Swift Supporter (LSS). Halting the loss of plant and animal species world-wide is a key objective of government and charitable organisations. The speakers will explain how WfL and LSS enhance the urban environment of Lewes and explore how the whole community can contribute to this end.
